Generation Entrepreneur by Arlene Satchell for the Sun-Sentinel

Enterprise is part of Jocelyn Silverman's DNA. Her father, uncles and grandfathers all operated businesses, but she's the family's first female entrepreneur.
The Boca Raton resident started 304 Media, a full-service design agency from home, at age 22. Now 27, Silverman is founder and creative director for three companies housed in a swank Boca Raton office.
"We've come a long way since then," said Silverman.

In the early days, Silverman designed Web sites, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000; today her team designs customized Web sites that range from $4,000 to $50,000.
Being persistent is Silverman's best advice to young entrepreneurs. In assembling her dream team of five employees, she fired 14 others before finding the right mix of talents and skills.
After Hurricane Wilma, she started ShortRunCards.com, which produces plastic credit card-sized cards for clients who use them as VIP membership, gift and business cards.

For national reach, Silverman joined the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and created a New York virtual office. In April, she launched Creative-Juice.com, which offers 304 Media's main services to larger marketing and advertising agencies.
For Silverman, the business journey has not been easy and while she has accomplished much in five years, she is hesitant to say she's a success.
"I'm not there yet."
